Anti-Spam Legislation Guidance Material

Canada’s Anti-Spam Legislation (also known as CASL), came into force on July 1, 2014.

To help clarify the regulations, the Canadian Real Estate Association (CREA) has released new guidance material to help Members understand anti-spam legislation obligations. CASL regulates how email, text messages, and other forms of electronic messages can be sent for marketing purposes.

CREA has developed both brief and detailed resources: the Guidance on Canada’s Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL) for REALTOR® Members provides a comprehensive description of CASL and what Members need to do to comply, while the Summary Guidance on Canada’s Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL) for REALTOR® Members aims to be a reminder of Members’ obligations.

The guidance material is designed to simplify compliance with easy-to-understand language. The new publications complement over four and half years of lobbying by CREA that resulted in nine modifications to Canada’s anti-spam framework, which preserve several critical marketing practices and ease compliance.
